The short-term mission team will share moments of their ministry from 7/21-28 every day. The following are their daily updates:

After a nearly twenty-hour flight, the Arise short-term mission team finally arrived in Phnom Penh at noon on Sunday. In the afternoon, we participated in a singing contest organized by Pleroma Community Center (PCC) for children and teenagers. Teenager contestants develop self-confidence by stepping onto the stage. We were very moved by their singing especially when they sang songs praising God. Three teenagers from Arise were also on stage sharing and interacting with the local youths through music.

On the second day, we experienced a much deeper understanding of Cambodia’s history and people’s lives. The Arise short-term mission team visited the “S21 Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum” in Phnom Penh to learn how a large number of Phnom Penh citizens were driven into the countryside during the Khmer Rouge rule, and middle schools were converted into execution grounds for the massacre of intellectuals, former officials and civilians. The team members listened intently and commemorated this tragedy, while also feeling the efforts of Cambodians to overcome the haze of trauma. The short-term mission team visited local markets, the Royal Palace and the Mekong River front area outside the Palace to learn about people’s livelihood.

On the third day, the short-term mission team visited Fullness in Christ Fellowship’s ministries in Phnom Penh, including community center, primary and secondary schools, and homes for women and girls. They paid close attention to understanding the causes of human trafficking and sexual abuse of Cambodian women. From the stories of many women who have been helped, they deeply felt the significance of FiCF as the only Chinese organization engaged in this type of ministry.

On the fourth day, the short-term mission team went to the Community Center to lead K2 and K3 writing classes, telling Bible stories and leading games to deepen the children’s understanding of the Heavenly Father. Several teenage team members were particularly well-received by the children. Another team visited the Daughters’ Home, where they conducted activities such as making nylon flower crafts, painting nails, and dancing the Chicken Dance. The bright smiles on the girls’ faces reflected their restored sense of dignity as women created by God and helped rebuild their trust in people.

Early childhood education is one of the preventive ministries of FiCF. The short-term mission team shared with the young children the story of Noah’s Ark and the Rainbow Covenant, God’s salvation and promises to the world. Another team taught about God’s creation in seven days at Daughter’s House, using origami crafts to enhance the participants’ focus and creativity. Three young team members taught the participants K-Pop dance, giving them energy and confidence.

The short-term mission team visited the community where Girls’ Home is located to understand the impact of grassroots family housing conditions on girls’ development. It is very unfortunate that some children have to drop out of school to support their families. The mission team donated books collected by Arise to the school to increase the library’s collection. At the same time, they taught the students of the Girls’ Home how to do makeup and had them choose clothing collected by Arise, then took photos of them. The highlight of the event was a catwalk where the students’ excitement was evident on their faces. This experience restored their inner and outer beauty, alleviated their unfortunate experiences, and deeply moved both the social workers and the mission team.

The team enjoyed the day with girls and women from the Homes on a day trip to Europark and Aeon Mall. We were so relaxed walking around the park and enjoyed the time chatting and taking pictures. The team also went with the girls to have lunch at the mall. We all enjoyed the time together so much. At the end of the outing, we returned to the Girls’ Home and the team bid farewell to the girls. It was an emotional farewell. The girls brought home-made thank you cards that they wrote in Khmer and English to express their gratitude to the team for the fun and activities.
Sunday, July 28, 2024
The team went to New Life Church to worship with local people this morning. We felt the Holy Spirit’s presence and were moved by the experience. In the afternoon, the team served the final session at the Community Center and did 3 Bible study classes with children ages from 3 to 14 years old, and were amazed by their knowledge of Bible. We also had a chance touring around the neighborhood and further understood the hardships of the kids and their families. May God continue to bless the FiCF’s ministries and the people of Cambodia.
